17.06.07 | Stormy skies over Belvide

Had a morning at belvide Reservoir this Sunday morning, the dark clouds lumrd over our heads but we managed to stay dry.

Michaela and I had a walk along the south shore at Belvide today. I took the Ricoh GX100 digital camera with me for testing with my digiscoping kit.

The more I'm using the Ricoh GX100 for digiscoping the more I like it. It's really geared up for the job with a clip on lens adapter allowing you to operate the full zoom lens within the housing and get the lens very close to the eyepiece, eliminating any vignetting. An electronic shutter release allows for focus lock for fine tuning of the focus of your scope and lots of manual controls, plus 10 megapixels allows for easy cropping.

Check back soon for a full right up on the GX100.

Sightings at Belvide today included Reed Warbler, Ruddy Duck, Sedge Warbler, Garden Warbler and Common Tern to name but a few.

10.06.07 | Digiscoping at Wolseley Bridge

Spent some time in the hot sun testing the Ricoh GX100 digital camera at Wolseley Bridge, Staffordshire.

The weekend brought some very hot weather and fine skies. The lighting was excellent.

I am currently testing a Ricoh GX100 digital camera with my digiscoping set-up, so I decided to visit the pool at Wolseley Bridge. As I'm still getting used to the cameras settings, I thought the location would offer some easy opportunities to try out the Ricoh.

I found a group of Mallards and used them as my test subjects. Some of the results from the GX100 were fantastic, really sharp, I think it's going to be a real winner. It's got all the right features for digiscoping plus a range of very useful accessories.

Check back soon for a full write up on digiscoping with the Ricoh GX100.

Sunday morning was spent with my friends Anthony and Claire, visiting Bateswood just outside Newcastle-Under-Lyme. No pictures but good sightings of Skylark, Lapwing, Garden Warbler and juvenile Jay. We also spotted a fox in a nearby field feasting on the carcass of a dead sheep.
