21.09.08 | Cannock Chase

Seems like ages since I've updated the diary, but I've been really busy recently and the bad weather has meant I haven't done a lot of photography lately.

With the recent good weather, my friend Anthony and I headed out to Cannock Chase, with the main objective to photograph the many deer that roam on the Chase. We arrived at around 7.00am, it was a fantastic morning and lovely to arrive as the sun was rising. Cannock Chase is such a huge area, we did see several deer, but all too far away for a worthwhile picture. Next month we are joining an organsied walk to the Rutting location on the Chase with the Warden, so hopefully should be able to get closer to the action.

On Sunday I visited some friends who have a good sized pool on their property, which attracts a Kingfisher. They have just bought a portable hide and have added a large branch overhanging the water. We were able to get really close to the bird without disturbing him. After sitting in the hide, I immediately went home and bought one, it is great with built in seats for two people and it folds away and can be carried like a rucksack on your back, at just £75 I thing it's going to be a really good investment for my wildlife photography.
